I was asked to create a logo for a new sewing studio. The owners were inspired by Art Deco typefaces and Industrial Design. They also requested letters-only - no icon component, and only black and white. In addition to this, there was some indecision between the partners as to what exactly to call their collective- they were stuck between two names: Portland Sewing Studio, and Portland Textile Studio.

To begin, I gathered some photo inspiration from the clients and I researched to find some as well. I worked out some designs in Illustrator. There are many Art-Deco style typefaces out there, but I needed to find one that was bold and felt as heavy and industrial as an old sewing machine.  I sent the clients a few different version, including what was chosen as the final design.

The final product combines all of the components desired: the lines hint at thread, and the unity of these elements composed an effective yet simple logo.
